Overview

Summary of opinions expressed by BOJ Monetary Policy Meeting members. Released approximately 1 week after each meeting.

Meeting summary (published 2026-06-16)

The Bank of Japan decided on June 16, 2026, by a majority vote (7 in favor, 1 opposed), to raise the uncollateralized overnight call rate target from 0.75% to 1.0%. The basic trend of inflation is expected to become broadly consistent with the 2% price stability target from the latter half of fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2027. Regarding long-term Japanese government bond purchases, the BOJ decided on a new policy to halt the reduction schedule from April 2027 and maintain monthly purchases at around 2.0 trillion yen. The financial environment is assessed to remain accommodative. Key risk factors requiring close monitoring include developments in Middle East conditions, global AI-related demand trends, and exchange rate fluctuations.
