The Summary of Opinions from the Bank of Japan's Monetary Policy Meeting held on July 30-31, 2026, indicates that while Middle Eastern geopolitical tensions and rising crude oil prices weigh on the economy, global AI-related demand, government measures, and resilient personal consumption support gradual economic recovery. The underlying inflation rate is expected to rise gradually and reach a level broadly consistent with the price stability target from the second half of fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2027. Regarding monetary policy, opinions were expressed both for maintaining the policy rate to assess the impact of the previous rate hike and for accelerating adjustments to tighten monetary conditions given upside risks to inflation.
