Overview
The Federal Reserve's monetary policy committee. Meets 8 times per year to set the federal funds rate target range.
Meeting summary (published 2025-02-19)
At the January 28-29, 2025 meeting, the FOMC voted unanimously (12-0) to keep the federal funds rate target range at 4-1/4 to 4-1/2 percent. It judged that economic activity had continued to expand at a solid pace, that the unemployment rate had stabilized at a low level (4.1% in December) with solid labor market conditions, and that inflation remained somewhat elevated (November total PCE 2.4%, core PCE 2.8%), with progress toward 2% having slowed over the past year. The Committee agreed to continue reducing its securities holdings under existing caps ($25bn/month Treasuries, $35bn agency debt/MBS). It will carefully assess incoming data, the evolving outlook, and the balance of risks; many participants emphasized that the still-restrictive stance warranted a cautious approach.
