The Monetary Policy Meeting decided to raise the policy rate from around 0.75% to approximately 1.0% (approved by 7 members with 1 against). The domestic economy is recovering gradually, though some weakness is observed due to Middle East developments. Corporate profits remain at high levels backed by robust AI-related demand, with capital investment increasing gradually. Consumer prices excluding fresh food remain below 2% owing to the government's energy cost mitigation measures. Regarding long-term government bond purchases, the meeting decided to maintain a monthly purchase amount of approximately 2.0 trillion yen from April 2027 onwards. One dissenting vote was cast by Auditor Asada, who assessed downside risks from Middle East developments as larger. The Bank indicated its intention to continue raising the policy rate while monitoring the probability and risks associated with the baseline outlook for economic and price developments.
