The Monetary Policy Meeting held on April 27-28, 2026, decided to guide the uncollateralized call rate (overnight) to trend around 0.75% (6 in favor, 3 opposed). Dissenting members were Director Nakagawa (citing upside price risks), Director Takada (proposing a rate increase to 1.0%), and Director Tamura. The Committee assessed that domestic economic activity is recovering gradually despite some weakness due to Middle Eastern developments. Overseas economies are growing gradually overall despite some weakness from trade policy effects. Corporate profits remain at high levels overall, though weakness is evident in manufacturing due to U.S. tariff policies. Regarding prices, the Committee judged that the mechanism by which wages and prices rise gradually through mutual reference is being maintained under accommodative monetary conditions.
