The 2026 Central Economic Work Conference was held in Beijing on December 10-11, 2025. The meeting summarized 2025 economic work and deployed the 2026 economic operation policy. The basic policy orientation is "pursuing progress while maintaining stability and improving quality and efficiency" (稳中求进、提质增效). Fiscal and monetary policies will continue with "more active fiscal policy" and "moderately loose monetary policy." Eight priority tasks were identified: (1) maintaining domestic-demand-led approach and building a strong domestic market, (2) promoting new quality productive forces through scientific innovation, (3) advancing key reform measures through institutional reform, (4) advancing multi-sectoral cooperation through opening-up, (5) prioritizing livelihood to improve living standards, (6) preventing major risks in key sectors, (7) promoting comprehensive green transition, and (8) strengthening Party leadership. On monetary policy, the conference explicitly reaffirmed maintaining the basic stability of the yuan exchange rate at a reasonable equilibrium level.
